Getting Smart About Security

One of the first things you do when you set up a WordPress site is work on the colors, font, layout, and appearance. Then it's time to add text and information. But what about WordPress security? Don't let the fun of setting up a site that is new distract you from the objective of protecting the information you're putting online.

If you don't have good protection on your site, files can easily get lost. Some of those files may be stored on your computer and easily replaceable, but what about the rest of them? Where are you going to get them from again, if you lose them the first time? Especially fix wordpress malware removal is very important. Long-term sites have a lot of data and have made a number of documents. Recreating all that would be a nightmare, and not something any business their website owner would like to do.

The stronger approach, and the one I recommend, is to use one of the password generation and storage plugins available on your browser. Lots of people like RoboForm, but I believe after a free trial period, you need to pay for it. I use the free version of Lastpass, and I recommend it for those who use Firefox or Internet Explorer. That will generate passwords for you; you use one master password to log in.

Keep your WordPress Installation up to date - One of the easiest and most valuable tasks you can do yourself is to make sure your WordPress installation is upgraded. WordPress gives a notice in your dashboard to you, so there's really no reason.

Now we're getting into things specific to WordPress. You must rename it to config.php and alter the file config-sample.php, when you install WordPress. You need to set up the database facts there.

Do your homework and some searching, but if you are pressed for time and want to get this done once and for all, try out the WordPress safety plugin that I use. It's a relief to know that my site (and business!) are secure.
